Knox County Community Foundation is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2026 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship for Knox County: Jaclyn Campbell, Rivet High School. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars are recognized for their community involvement, academic achievement, character, and leadership.

Knox County students continue to stand out for their dedication to academic excellence, their strong determination in pursuing their educational goals, and their admirable commitment to serving their community. I am confident they will make a positive impact on Knox County now and in the future," said Laura Hazelman, Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact.

Each Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship provides full tuition, required fees, and up to $900 per year for required books and equipment for four years of full-time undergraduate study leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university.

Scholars also join the Lilly Scholars Network (LSN), which connects them with resources and opportunities to lead on campus and in their communities. Both the scholarship program and LSN are supported by grants from Lilly Endowment to Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI).

I am excited to come back to Knox County and use everything that I learn to help the community that I grew up in. In nominating Knox County’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholar, the committee considered academic performance, community service, volunteer activities, personal statement of goals and essay, school activities, honors, and work experience. Those advancing to phase two were scored on an in-person interview and an impromptu essay, designed to demonstrate the student’s verbal communication skills and overall civic pride and interest in the quality of their community. After narrowing the field of applicants, nominees were submitted to Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI), the statewide administrator of the program, for final selection.

Since its inception in 1997-1998, Lilly Endowment has supported this program with tuition grants totaling more than $505 million, benefiting over 5,400 Indiana students. The program’s primary purposes are:

To raise the level of educational attainment in Indiana.
To increase awareness of the beneficial roles Indiana community foundations play.
To encourage and support Lilly Scholars’ engagement with Indiana leaders to improve quality of life statewide.

The Knox County Community Foundation announced that more than $110,000 has been awarded to 23 local nonprofits through its Community Good Grants Program. These grants support projects that strengthen the Knox County community and improve the quality of life for local residents.

$3,000 to Backpacks of Love for VCSC for purchasing food to send home with children on the weekends
$15,000 to Blue Jeans Community Center, Inc. for assisting with the cost of replacing the roof over the gymnasium to ensure the availability of a safe, functional space for recreation, wellness, education, and community gatherings
$5,000 to Buffalo Trace Council-Boy Scouts of America for assisting with the cost of the KCARC Scout Reach program by covering membership fees for Scouts and Leaders, and supplies
$2,200 to Children’s Center for Dance Education for assisting with the cost to bring the ballet “Aladdin” to Knox County in the spring and assisting local dancers with the cost of costumes and ballet shoes

The Community Foundation Alliance is proud to announce that applications are now open for its Community Scholarship Program, offering hundreds of opportunities for students across Southwest Indiana and in select areas of Illinois and Kentucky.

These scholarships, made possible by generous local donors, provide financial support for students pursuing college, university, technical programs, or other post-secondary education paths.

The Knox County Community Foundation is now accepting applications for its 2025 Community Good Grants Program. Nonprofit organizations serving Knox County are invited to apply now through Monday, August 25, 2025.

Community Good Grants are awarded to charitable partners addressing a wide range of local needs. Funding is available to support programs and projects that make a meaningful impact in Knox County communities.

The 2026 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Application is Now Open in Knox County

The 2026 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship application is now available in Knox County through the Knox County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation Alliance. The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program (LECSP) will provide 147 scholarships statewide and one scholarship in Knox County.

LECSP scholarships may be used for otherwise unreimbursed full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year. The special allocation may cover the costs for required books and required equipment for four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis, leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university.

The program, administered statewide by Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) and locally in Knox County through the Knox County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation Alliance, is open to all Indiana residents who:

graduate from an accredited Indiana high school by 2026 and receive their diploma no later than June 30, 2026;
intend to pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study at an eligible college or university in Indiana; and
meet the criteria specific to Knox County Community Foundation. Visit knoxcountycf.org/lilly-endowment-community-scholarship-program for complete information regarding the Knox County application criteria.

Students can learn more about the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship in Knox County and apply for this scholarship by visiting the Knox County Community Foundation website. Applications must be completed and submitted by August 25, 2025, to be considered.

Applications will be evaluated on, but not limited to, the following criteria: academic performance, community service and volunteer activities, personal statement of goals, work experience, and school activities. Three finalists will be nominated by the Knox County Community Foundation, and their names will be submitted to ICI for final selection of the recipients. Scholarship recipients will be notified in December.

16 Students Awarded More Than $37,000 in Scholarships from the Knox County Community Foundation

The Knox County Community Foundation distributed more than $37,000 to 16 local Knox County students from its Community Scholarship Program. These scholarships are funded by generous donors who have established a scholarship fund with the Knox County Community Foundation.

This year’s scholarship breakfast to celebrate and recognize these exceptional students was held at The Pantheon, with fund founders, recipients, and parents attending. Zoe Herron of Lincoln High School Named 2025 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar for Knox County

Each year, the Knox County Community Foundation announces the recipient of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship for Knox County, which covers full tuition, required fees, and includes a special allocation of up to $900 per year for required books and equipment, for up to four years. Alongside, two alternates are designated, ensuring readiness in case the initially selected scholar cannot accept the award due to special circumstances.

This year, after the initially named recipient, Savannah Staggs, graciously declined the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship, the scholarship was offered to the First Alternate, Zoe Herron, Lincoln High School.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to attend a college here in Indiana without worrying about finances. I know the Lilly [Endowment Community Scholarship] community will allow me to continue developing my leadership skills and will support me throughout my college journey and beyond,” said Herron.

The initial recipient, Savannah Staggs declined the scholarship after accepting a full ride to attend Indiana University.

The scholarship is for full-time undergraduate students leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars may also participate in the Lilly Scholars Network (LSN), which connects both current scholars and alumni with resources and opportunities to be active leaders on their campuses and in their communities. Opportunities for Entrepreneurs: Comprehensive Report Outlines Strategic Demand, New Market Openings in Southern Indiana Region

A broad spectrum of diverse demand for a wide variety of professionals and professional services exists in southern Indiana, representing an array of actionable growth opportunities and potential market development. These opportunities were recently strategically documented in a comprehensive report funded by the Community Foundation Alliance and the Harrison County Community Foundation.

The planning report, conducted in partnership with the Indiana First READI region, profiles and pinpoints specific growth opportunities for entrepreneurs in several categories, according to Jill Carpenter, President and CEO of the Community Foundation Alliance here.

“Based on direct primary research conducted across multiple counties, the Indiana First Quality of Life Economic Impact Analysis report reveals market potential and entrepreneurial gaps on a county-by-county basis, demonstrating areas of real demand,” said Carpenter. “A careful review of key areas can yield some significant potential market growth for the right companies, professionals, and entrepreneurs.”

The economic development executives in the First Indiana region noted that they intend to mine the report to determine opportunities for scalable market growth and talent attraction. The report offers an analysis of the potential economic impact for addressing and improving defined issues throughout the region.

“This report can be a workbook for professionals looking to expand, relocate, or start up a business in multiple categories,” said Chris Pfaff, CEO of Knox County Indiana Economic Development. “It provides actionable data on what services and capacity presently exist within our counties and region, and what services residents travel outside of the county or region to buy or obtain.”

“Those gaps represent a definable opportunity to be evaluated and captured,” he added. “It can serve as a talent attractor and entrepreneurial opportunity of the first order for our region.”

The information is expected to help the region enhance its state and local investments from the READI program and other private investment opportunities.

“In order to get feedback from each county, key stakeholders were invited to participate in community conversations regarding essential services in their county in addition to a public survey facilitated by consultants,” said Julie Moorman, President and CEO of the Harrison County Community Foundation. “We are appreciative of the input from community stakeholders in helping identify gaps in essential services and sharing their input of quality-of-life amenities in their communities.”

The 191-page report, assembled by TPMA (Thomas P. Miller and Associates), includes significant data analysis and identified specific opportunities to enhance the quality of life in five southern Indiana counties, sketching out gaps that can be filled through initiative planning and growth, infrastructure investments, and elevation of talent opportunities.

Actionable potential engagement highlights for growth range from healthcare and essential services to entertainment and dining, as well as professional and technical services.

"The report confirms what we’ve heard anecdotally for years—many Perry County residents travel outside the county for veterinary services," said Erin Emerson, President and CEO of the Perry County Development Corporation. "Now, by pairing local insight with concrete data, we can make an even stronger case that additional veterinary services could thrive here - this is just one of many opportunities highlighted in the analysis that align with the needs of our community."

City of Vincennes Receives $100,000 TLC Grant for Inclusive Playground at Gregg Park

The Knox County Community Foundation awarded the City of Vincennes $100,000 through the Target Lasting Change (TLC) grant initiative. This grant will be used to assist with the purchase of new playground equipment for the Next Level Gregg Park project.

The City of Vincennes accepted the grant at an outdoor presentation in Gregg Park with Mayor Joe Yochum, Parks Superintendent J.R. Field, and Park Board members present.

“The City of Vincennes is excited to be receiving the $100,000 Target Lasting Change grant to improve our parks. Our plan is designed with inclusivity, ensuring that children of all abilities can play, explore, and learn together. With accessible playground equipment and handicap-friendly features, we aim to create an environment where everyone can enjoy the benefits of outdoor play. We are committed to fostering a community where all children feel welcomed, valued, and empowered to participate fully in play activities,” says Mayor Joe Yochum.

The TLC grant initiative supports programs and projects that improve quality of life and enhance economic vitality in Knox County. Since its inception in 2008, this is the fifth TLC grant awarded, made possible by generous donations to the Friends of Knox County Fund, which has contributed over $305,000 in grant funding.

The first TLC grant, awarded in 2008, went to Life After Meth Inc. for its Community Model Program, which helps incarcerated individuals recover and reintegrate into society. The second grant, in 2012, was given to Children and Family Services for Hope’s Voice, a program supporting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. In 2016, the third grant was awarded to the Salvation Army Vincennes for its Pathway of Hope program, which helps families break the cycle of poverty and escape ongoing crises. The most recent grant, awarded in 2021, supported Good Samaritan Hospital’s efforts to enhance pediatric readiness and expand its Mobile Integrated Health-Community Paramedicine program, benefiting pediatric patients and their families in Knox County.

2024 Community Scholarship Applications Open

Many of our donors have chosen to honor their loved ones, communities, high schools, colleges, and professions by establishing scholarship funds through their local Community Foundations in Daviess, Gibson, Knox, Perry, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick Counties. These funds support the annual Community Scholarship programs, providing valuable opportunities for students in Southwest Indiana. Thanks to their contributions, applications are being accepted now, with a deadline of Monday, January 20, 2025, at 11:59 p.m.

"We are excited to once again provide scholarship opportunities to students in our Southwest Indiana region,” says Melinda Waldroup, Chief Program Officer at the Community Foundation Alliance. “By offering these scholarships, we are not only investing in individual students but also in the future of our communities. We encourage all eligible students to apply and take a step towards achieving their educational and career goals."

Students may apply for one or more scholarships if they meet the eligibility requirements and selection criteria established by donors. Details about each scholarship and the application are posted on the website at communityfoundationalliance.org/scholarships .

Each scholarship is unique and supports students with a variety of backgrounds, educational goals, and economic statuses. Knox County Community Foundation Now Accepting Applications For The 2025 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program

The 2025 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship application is now available in Knox County through the Knox County Community Foundation. The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program (LECSP) will provide 147 scholarships statewide and one scholarship in Knox County. LECSP scholarships may be used for otherwise unreimbursed full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year. The special allocation may cover the costs for required books and required equipment for four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university.

The program, administered statewide by Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) and locally in Knox County through the Knox County Community Foundation, is open to all Indiana residents who:

graduate from an accredited Indiana high school by 2025 and receive their diploma no later than June 30, 2025;
intend to pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study at an eligible college or university in Indiana; and

Applications must be completed and submitted by Wednesday, August 14, 2024, by Noon to be considered.

Applications will be evaluated on, but not limited to, the following criteria: Academic Performance, Community Service and Volunteer Activities, and Personal Statement of Goals. Three finalists will be nominated by the Knox County Community Foundation, and their names will be submitted to ICI for final selection of the recipients. Scholarship recipients will be notified in December.

Lilly Endowment created LECSP for the 1997-98 school year and has supported the program every year since with tuition grants totaling more than $490 million. More than 5,300 Indiana students have received Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships since the program’s inception.

Knox County Community Foundation Awards Over $38,000 In Scholarships

The Knox County Community Foundation announces the distribution of community scholarships totaling $38,400. This year, funds established by generous donors provided scholarships to 18 area students. The scholarship breakfast for fund founders, recipients, and parents was held on Wednesday, May 1 at The Pantheon.

Scholarships awarded:

The Zack Arnold Memorial Scholarship is an annual renewable scholarship established by Dr. Brian Arnold and his family in memory of his son Zack. Since golf was important to Zack, the scholarship benefits Knox County seniors who have participated on their school golf team. This year’s $1,500 scholarship recipient is Hunter Sievers, South Knox High School.

The Persis McClure Hurst Memorial Scholarship was established by Sarah H. Keller in memory of her mother. It benefits graduating seniors of any Knox County High School planning to attend any Indiana college or university and who demonstrate an interest in English or history. This year’s $2,000 scholarship recipient is Noah Hayden, South Knox High School.

McKinley Avenue Presbyterian Church Student Scholarship is an annual scholarship founded by the members of the McKinley Avenue Presbyterian Church Student Scholarship Committee. It benefits a graduating senior from any Knox County High School pursuing post-secondary education. The recipient of the $800 scholarship is Hunter Sievers, South Knox High School.

The Velma and Herbert Pepmeier Scholarship was established by Herbert C. Pepmeier to benefit a graduating senior who is affiliated with St. John’s United Church of Christ in Vincennes or Bethel Church in Freelandville. This year’s $5,000 scholarship recipient is Harlee Keller, North Knox High School.

The James (Jim) Jenks Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship established by friends of Jim Jenks to help graduating seniors of Knox County pursue advanced education. Jim was an avid golfer, so recipients must have been a member of their school’s golf team during their senior year of high school. The scholarship will be awarded to a female student and one male student. This year’s $500 award recipients are Tori Thompson, South Knox High School and Emmett Ransom, Lincoln High School.

The Kathleen W. Rinsch Educational Scholarship is an annual renewable scholarship established by the past director of the Knox County Community Foundation, Kathy Rinsch. She was a former English and Latin teacher at North Knox High School and established this scholarship to encourage recent graduates and non-traditional students to pursue higher education in the field of education. The recipient of the $1,500 scholarship is Cora Armes, North Knox High School.

The Robert W. Nordhorn Memorial Scholarship was established by Mrs. Marcia Nordhorn in memory of her husband Robert. The scholarship is awarded to a student at Lincoln High School who has participated in arts/technical theater, choir, or band and who has participated in theatrical productions. This year the $600 scholarship recipient is Emmett Ransom.

The Roger Montgomery, M.D. Memorial Scholarship was established by Sue Montgomery in memory of her husband Dr. (Walter) Roger Montgomery, a Vincennes nephrologist. It is available to graduating seniors of any Knox County high school or certified home school program who are pursuing post-secondary education. This year the $3,500 scholarship recipient is Mason Trent, Rivet High School.

The Southwest Indiana Purdue Scholarship was established by the Knox County Purdue Ag Alumni. It is open to students in Knox, Daviess, Greene, Sullivan, Pike, and Gibson Counties who are pursuing a degree at Purdue University in West Lafayette. This year’s $2,000 award recipient is Jordan Remsburg, Purdue University.

The Heather Bird Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship established by Robert H. Bird in memory of his daughter. Active members of the Vincennes Township Fire Department with at least one year of service and their spouses who have a high school diploma or GED or children of active members who are graduating high school seniors are eligible. This year the $1,500 scholarship recipient is Aschiah Birden, South Knox High School.

Schott North America-Vincennes Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Schott North America, Inc. to encourage the children or grandchildren of Schott North America, Inc. employees to further their education, to recognize academic achievement of those graduating from high school and continuing their education, and to motivate recipients to achieve maximum scholastic and vocational potential. This year Tori Thompson of South Knox High School and Trinity Bradford of Sullivan High School will each receive $2,000.

Knox County Community Foundation Scholarship

This year, 27 students applied for the Knox County Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. The Community Foundation was able to award a scholarship to the first and second alternate to the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship along with each student who was a finalist. The scholarships are made possible by donors to the Friends of Knox County Fund. Sharaya Wolfe, North Knox High School was named the First Alternate and awarded $6,000; and Evan Dreiman, South Knox High School was named Second Alternate and was awarded $2,000. The following students were finalists and each will receive $1,000; Allison Hensley, Rivet; Mason Trent, Rivet; Makinley Beard, South Knox; Mallory Friend, Lincoln; Jaelyn Grumieaux, South Knox; Ally Sims, South Knox; and Olivia Halter, North Knox.

McKenna Henderson of Lincoln High School is the 2024 Knox County Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship recipient. She will receive a full tuition scholarship to the Indiana college of her choice and a $900 yearly stipend for required books and equipment. After graduation, McKenna plans to attend Butler University. The Community Foundation handles the applications, and a volunteer selection committee of community leaders completes the review process for this award, submitting final nominations to Independent Colleges of Indiana.

Knox County Community Foundation Now Accepting Letters Of Inquiry For A $100,000 Target Lasting Change Grant

The Knox County Community Foundation is now accepting online letters of inquiry for a $100,000 Target Lasting Change Grant. The deadline to submit a letter of inquiry is Friday, May 31, 2024. This grant cycle will use a two-step process; step one is the letter of inquiry. Once reviewed by the Foundation, successful applicants will be invited to submit a formal grant application with the deadline of Wednesday, July 31, 2024.

The Knox County Community Foundation will award the Target Lasting Change (TLC) Grant to a 501(c)(3) public charity located in Knox County. We are seeking funding requests focused on quality of life and quality of place programs or projects in Knox County that have the potential to stimulate economic growth within the county.

Charitable entities can view details related to funding requirements and access the grant portal via the Foundation’s website at https://www.knoxcountycf.org/target-lasting-change-grant-initiative .

Agencies and projects not eligible for funding include religious organizations proposing activities that support a religious purpose, political parties or campaigns, endowment creation or debt reduction, annual appeals or membership contributions, and general operating costs not associated with the program/project.

The Knox County Community Foundation is now accepting applications for available scholarships through the Community Scholarship Program. The deadline to apply is 12:00 noon on Friday, January 19, 2024.

“Donors have honored their loved ones, high schools, or professions by creating endowment funds through the Knox County Community Foundation,” says Laura Hazelman, Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact. “Individuals, families, and organizations have created community scholarship funds that provide scholarships to assist local students in pursuit of advanced education. Together, these scholarships make up our Community Scholarship Program.”

Knox County Community Foundation Announces the 2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Recipient

The Knox County Community Foundation is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship for Knox County – McKenna Sueann Henderson of Lincoln High School. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars are known for their community involvement, academic achievement, character, and leadership.

“McKenna’s dedication to her school and community was apparent in her application and interview. The nominating committee was honored to have the opportunity to meet McKenna and recommend her for this life-changing scholarship opportunity,” said Laura Hazelman, Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact for the Knox County Community Foundation.

McKenna is the daughter of Justin and Miranda Henderson. Following graduation, she plans to major in Health Sciences for Pre-Med. McKenna is interested in OB/GYN Physician as a career choice. In addition to excelling academically, she has been active in extracurricular activities such as Interact Club, National Honor Society, Student Council, Class President, and Champions Together. McKenna was nominated by her school principal for Rising Stars of Indiana. She has been active in Volleyball for all 4 years and earned two varsity letters. In addition to working in food service and retail, she is also active in the community volunteering for Versiti blood drives, Generations Build a Basket and Children Blankets programs, Wreaths Across America, and The Salvation Army bell ringing.

In determining Knox County’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholar nominee, consideration was given to academic performance; community service and volunteer activities; personal statement of goals; work experience; school activities, honors, and awards; an impromptu essay; and communication of ideas and interview skills by the LECSP Nominating Committee. After the field of applicants was narrowed down, nominees were submitted to ICI, the statewide administrator of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program, which approves the final selection of scholarship recipients.

“The Community Foundation was thoroughly impressed with the quality of applicants and their level of involvement, Knox County has many outstanding young adults full of talent and drive,” said Hazelman.

The Knox County Community Foundation distributed $101,086.96 in grants to 18 local nonprofit organizations through their 2023 Community Good Grants program. This year’s grants provide flexible funding for a variety of charitable projects and organizations serving Knox County.

The grants awarded are:

· $20,386.96 to Knox County Sheriff’s Office to purchase updated mission-critical portable radios and necessary communication accessories for the Knox County SWAT team;

· $16,000 to the City of Bicknell to assist with the cost of paying a contractor to construct two new block dugouts and remove the existing structures in Southside Park;

· $10,000 to Life After Meth, Inc. to purchase fifteen new industrial-grade beds for the Level 3 Recovery residence;

· $7,500 to Pantheon Educational Center to assist with the purchase of flip-top training tables and stacking chairs;

· $7,000 to Children & Family Services, Corp to purchase a cabinet to store art therapy materials and assist with free art therapy access in Knox County for groups and individuals hosted by Grasshopper Group;

· $6,500 to Knox County Life Enrichment Foundation (KCLEF) to assist with the expense for the e-Knox Digital Literacy Program, which includes instructor, purchase of computers, and miscellaneous supplies;

· $5,000 to Backpacks of Love for VCSC to purchase food to put in bags for children to take home;

· $5,000 to the Knox County Drug Court Foundation to assist with requests for rent assistance, utility payment, past due/disconnected utility remedy, and other emergency situations communicated through case managers;

· $4,500 to Vincennes University Foundation to purchase books, supplies, and materials needed for all activities and games for enrichment activities for the StoryWalk on the Wabash;

· $3,000 to Buffalo Trace Council-Boy Scouts of America to assist with the membership cost for Knox County students to join Scouting;

· $3,000 to BABE of Knox, Inc. to purchase special request items such as car seats, double strollers, crib mattresses, highchairs, baby swings, diapers, wipes, and clothing;

· $3,000 to Red Skeleton Museum Foundation, Inc. to purchase ten commercial-grade vendor tents with sides to be used for vendors at the Christkindlmarkt;

· $2,500 to Holly’s House, Inc. to provide support for the direct costs of program materials for the prevention program in Knox County Elementary Schools;

· $2,500 to the City of Vincennes to assist with the cost of building the covered extension on the existing Riverfront Pavilion;

· $2,000 to St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry to purchase beds and mattress covers;

· $1,500 to Old Town Players Community Theater to assist with the cost of publishing royalties, scripts, marketing artwork, printing, and materials for “A Christmas Story”;

· $1,000 to Word of Life Church to purchase life jackets for Rainbow Beach patrons to use at no cost; and

· $700 to Indiana Military Museum to assist with the cost to print and/or upgrade signage associated with military displays.

St. James Episcopal Church recently received a $1,000 grant from the Knox County Community Foundation through the Knox Gives Grant Program.

South Knox School Corporation recently received a $1,000 grant from the Knox County Community Foundation through the Knox Gives Grant Program.

The Knox Gives Grant Program allows Knox County Community Foundation advisory board members to recommend $1,000 grants to local nonprofit organizations. The Foundation’s most recent grant recommendation was made by Ross Martin to purchase benches for the tennis courts. The new benches will allow a place for players to sit during and between matches, rather than on the ground.

Knox County Community Foundation Recognizes Local Advisory Board Members

The Knox County Community Foundation would like to recognize three advisory board members who recently completed their volunteer service on the county advisory board: Laura DeBrock, Lori Marchino, and Mark Anson. We extend a heartfelt appreciation for their service and dedication to making a lasting impact in our community.

This fiscal year’s advisory board also includes Steve Smith (president), Ross Martin (vice president), Chrissy Lange (secretary), Beth Chattin, Nash Dunn, Lorrinda Ellermann, Drew Garretson, Chris Hertel, Andrew Hinz, Vanessa Phillips, Dan Siewers, and Susan Yochum.

Volunteer members of the advisory board play a vital role in the success of the Community Foundation. They focus on local asset development, learning about the community’s greatest needs and nonprofits that support those needs, and recommending grants and scholarships. "The active participation of community members on our advisory board is essential to the achievements of our mission. Through their dedicated volunteering, they tirelessly contribute their time to ensure that the contributions from donors consistently create a positive influence on the well-being of individuals in Knox County," said advisory board president, Steve Smith.

While the Knox County Community Foundation is an affiliate of the Community Foundation Alliance, at least one county advisory board member serves as a county representative on the Alliance Board. This fiscal year's representatives are Laura Bogard (chair), Craig Kirk, and Chris Hertel.

Knox County Community Foundation Now Accepting Applications for the 2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program

The 2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship (LECSP) application is now available in Knox County through the Knox County Community Foundation. The LECSP will provide 147 scholarships statewide and one scholarship in Knox County. LECSP scholarships may be used for otherwise unreimbursed full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year. The special allocation may cover the costs for required books and required equipment for four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university.

The program, administered statewide by Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) and locally in Knox County through the Knox County Community Foundation, is open to all Indiana residents who:

• graduate from an accredited Indiana high school by 2024 and receive their diploma no later than June 30, 2024;

• intend to pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study at an eligible college or university in Indiana; and

• meet the criteria specific to their local Community Foundation.

Students can learn more about the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship in Knox County and apply for this scholarship by visiting https://www.knoxcountycf.org/lilly-endowment-community-scholarship-program . Applications must be completed and submitted by Friday, August 25, 2023, at 12 noon EST to be considered.

Applications will be evaluated on, but not limited to, the following criteria: Academic Performance, Community Service and Volunteer Activities, and Person Statement of Goals. One recipient and two alternates will be nominated by the Knox County Community Foundation, and their names will be submitted to ICI for final selection of the recipients. Scholarship recipients will be notified in December.

Lilly Endowment created LECSP for the 1997-98 school year and has supported the program every year since with tuition grants totaling more than $486 million. More than 5,000 Indiana students have received Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships since the program’s inception.

The primary purposes of the LECSP are: 1) to help raise the level of educational attainment in Indiana; 2) to increase awareness of the beneficial roles Indiana community foundations can play in their communities; and 3) to encourage and support the efforts of current and past Lilly Endowment Community Scholars to engage with each other and with Indiana business, governmental, educational, nonprofit and civic leaders to improve the quality of life in Indiana generally and in local communities throughout the state.

The Knox County Community Foundation is now accepting online applications for its Community Good Grants Program. The deadline to submit applications is Sunday, July 16, 2023.

The Foundation awards Community Good grants to charitable partners located in or directly serving Knox County. Funding opportunities are available to support a broad range of local needs. Grants are typically given as one-time support of a project but may be considered for additional support, or for expansions or outgrowths of an initial project. All organizations submitting grant proposals will be notified of the outcome on or before October 31, 2023.

Charitable entities can view details related to funding requirements and access the grant application via the Foundation’s website at knoxcountycf.org/grants .

Agencies and projects not eligible for funding include religious organizations proposing activities that support a religious purpose, political parties or campaigns, endowment creation or debt reduction, capital campaigns, annual appeals or membership contributions, and travel requests for groups or individuals such as bands, sports teams, or school classes.

Knox County Community Foundation Awards Over $30,000 In Scholarships To 17 Area Students

The Knox County Community Foundation announces the distribution of community scholarships totaling $31,900. This year, funds established by generous donors, provided scholarships to 17 area students. The scholarship breakfast for fund founders and recipients was held Friday, April 14 ^th at The Pantheon.

In addition to announcing the recipients, the Regional Director of Community Engagement & Impact, Laura Hazelman states, “The Knox County Community Foundation is thankful to our generous fund founders and donors who make these scholarship awards possible. Their investment in the education of our youth has impacted each of these students. The process of choosing who will be awarded each of these scholarships is undertaken with dedication and discipline by a committee made up of members of the Knox County Community Foundation advisory board. We are grateful for their hard work and dedication in doing this. The process is never easy because our Knox County students are exceptional.”

This year’s scholarships awarded are:

The Zack Arnold Memorial Scholarship is an annual renewable scholarship established by Dr. Brian Arnold and his family in memory of his son Zack. Since golf was important to Zack, the scholarship benefits Knox County seniors who have participated in their school’s golf team. This year’s $1,500 scholarship recipient is Bethany Williams, South Knox High School.

The Persis McClure Hurst Memorial Scholarship was established by Sarah H. Keller in memory of her mother. It benefits graduating seniors of any Knox County High School planning to attend any Indiana college or university and demonstrate an interest in English or History. This year’s $1,500 scholarship recipient is Emma Elkins, North Knox High School.

McKinley Avenue Presbyterian Church Student Scholarship is an annual scholarship founded by the members of the McKinley Avenue Presbyterian Church Student Scholarship Committee. It benefits a graduating senior at any Knox County High School pursuing post-secondary education. The recipient of this $800 scholarship is Ariana Patricio, Lincoln High School.

The Velma and Herbert Pepmeier Scholarship was established by Herbert C. Pepmeier to benefit a graduating senior who is affiliated with St. John’s United Church of Christ in Vincennes or Bethel Church in Freelandville. This year’s $4,000 scholarship recipient is Kathleen McGuire, Rivet High School.

The James (Jim) Jenks Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship established by friends of Jim Jenks to help graduating seniors of Knox County pursue advanced education. Jim was an avid golfer, so recipients must have been a member of their school’s golf team during their senior year of high school. The scholarship will be awarded to a female student and one male student. This year’s $500 award recipients are Trinity Dubbs, South Knox High School, and Luke Bloebaum, South Knox High School.

The Kathleen W. Rinsch Educational Scholarship is an annual renewable scholarship established by the past director of the Knox County Community Foundation, Kathy Rinsch. She was a former English and Latin teacher at North Knox High School and started this scholarship to encourage recent graduates and non-traditional students to pursue higher education in the field of education. The recipient of the $1,000 scholarship is Emma Elkins, North Knox High School.

The Roger Montgomery, M.D. Memorial Scholarship was established by Sue Montgomery in memory of her husband Dr. (Walter) Roger Montgomery, a Vincennes nephrologist. It is available to graduating seniors of any Knox County high school or certified home school program who are pursuing post-secondary education. This year the $3,000 scholarship recipient is Jayden Easley, Lincoln High School.

Knox County Community Foundation Scholarships

This year, 24 students applied for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship, and as in years past, the Community Foundation awards a scholarship to the first alternate to the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. This year we were able to award a scholarship to the second alternate as well as those students who were finalists of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. These scholarships are made possible by donors to the Friends of Knox County Fund. Abby Coffman, Ball State Academy was named the first alternate and awarded $4,000; and Payton Dugan, Lincoln High School was named second alternate and was awarded $2,000. The following students were finalists and each will receive $1,500; Geneva Halter, North Knox High School; Jonathan Soderling, Lincoln High School; Bethany Williams, South Knox; Chase Staggs, South Knox High School; Isabella Lange, Lincoln High School; and Dylan Maeder, South Knox High School.

Ava Like of South Knox High School is the 2023 Knox County Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship recipient. She will receive a full tuition scholarship to the Indiana College of her choice and a $900 yearly stipend for required books and equipment from the Lilly Endowment Scholarship. After graduation, Ava plans to attend Purdue University. The Community Foundation handles the applications, and a volunteer selection committee of community leaders completes the review process for this award, submitting final nominations to Independent Colleges of Indiana.

Knox County Community Foundation Announces The 2023 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Recipient

The Knox County Community Foundation is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2023 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship for Knox County – Ava Susanne Like of South Knox High School. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars are known for their community involvement, academic achievement, character, and leadership.

“Ava’s dedication to her school and community was apparent in her application and interview. The nominating committee was honored to have the opportunity to meet Ava and recommend her for this life-changing scholarship opportunity,” said Laura Hazelman, Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact for the Knox County Community Foundation.

Ava is the daughter of Andy and Nichole Like. Following graduation, she plans to major in Biochemistry or Biology for Pre-Med or Pre-Dentistry. Ava is interested in Dermatology, Orthodontia, or Pediatric Oncology as a career choice. In addition to excelling academically, she has been active in extracurricular activities such as Interact Club, National Honor Society, Student Council, and Art Club. Ava is a member of the Knox County CEO program, where she was elected class business CEO and is the owner of Ava Likes Granola. She has been successful in Cross Country and Track and Field earning five varsity letters and multiple academic honors and championships. Ava is also active in her church, volunteering for various church camps.

Each Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship provides for full tuition, required fees and a special allocation of up to $900 per year for required books and required equipment for four years. The scholarship is for undergraduate students studying on a full-time basis leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars may also participate in the Lilly Scholars Network (LSN), which connects both current scholars and alumni with resources and opportunities to be active leaders on their campuses and in their communities. Both the scholarship program and LSN are supported by grants from Lilly Endowment to Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) and Indiana Humanities.

In determining Daviess County’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholar nominee, consideration was given to academic performance; community service and volunteer activities; personal statement of goals; work experience; school activities, honors, and awards; an essay; and communication of ideas and interview skills by the LECSP Nominating Committee. After the field of applicants was narrowed down, nominees were submitted to ICI, the statewide administrator of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program, which approves the final selection of scholarship recipients.

Scholarship award alternates were also announced. Abigail Coffman of Ball State Academy was named the first alternate, and Payton Dugan of Lincoln High School was named as the second alternate.

The Christian Education Foundation’s mission is to provide funds to the Vincennes Catholic Schools- Flaget Elementary and Rivet High School.

Knox County Community Foundation Awards $115,000 to 16 Nonprofit Partners

The Knox County Community Foundation distributed $115,000 in grants to 16 local nonprofit organizations through their 2022 Community Good Grants program.

This year’s grants provide flexible funding for a variety of charitable projects and organizations serving Knox County.

The grants recipients are:

$5,000 to Vincennes Rotary Foundation to assist with the purchase of three different pieces of playground equipment for Christyn’s Place at Four Lakes Park;

$22,000 to City of Vincennes to purchase Shade Structures to be installed in the City Parks;
$1,000 to United Way of Knox County Indiana to assist with the purchase of additional Bed Time in a Box for youth entering Kindergarten;
$15,000 to Knox County Public Library to assist with transforming the Fortnightly Building into the Community Learning Kitchen;
$4,000 to Vincennes University Foundation to purchase books for children, and to buy supplies for StoryWalk on the Wabash and materials needed for all activities and games needed for enrichment activities;
$2,500 to Isaiah 117 House Knox County, IN to assist with the purchase of a storage shed;
$2,500 to Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ohio Valley to purchase food, pantry items, and supplies that families can prepare for themselves when staying at the Ronald McDonald House;
$15,000 to The Pantheon Educational Center to assist with the purchase and installation of tracks, motors, and the drapery of a curtain system on The Pantheon stage;
$5,000 to Northwest Territory Art Guild to assist with the support of the 1 ^st City Public Sculpture Exhibition 2022;

$15,000 to Vincennes Cub League, Inc. to assist with the Yellow Diamond Renovation project;

$1,000 to Thursday Church to purchase non-perishables, fruits, vegetables, proteins, grains, and dairy for their Food Pantry;
$3,500 to Salvation Army Vincennes Corps to assist with the cost of the Caseworker and fuel costs for social service clients;
$5,000 to North Knox Social Ministries to assist with the Utility Assistance program;
$1,000 to Old Towne Players Community Theater to assist with the expenses of royalties, scripts, music, costumes, and set construction for Christmas Productions of “A Christmas Carol” and “The Grouch;
$2,500 to Backpacks of Love for VCSC to assist with the purchase of food and the bags to send food home with students; and
$15,000 to American Legion to purchase new rifles for military funeral services performed by the All-Weather Firing Squad.

Funding for the program is provided by donors and organizations establishing and donating to 31 Community Good (Unrestricted) Funds held by the Foundation. Those funds are:

Knox County Community Foundation Community Scholarship Program Now Accepting Applications

Donors to the Knox County Community Foundation are making scholarship awards available again this year, through the Foundation’s Community Scholarship Program.

“Many donors have honored their loved ones, high schools, or professions by endowing scholarship opportunities through the Foundation,” says Laura Hazelman, the Foundation’s Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact. “We administer separate scholarship funds established by individuals, families, and organizations to assist local students in pursuit of advanced education. Together, these scholarships make up our Community Scholarship Program.”

Students may apply for one or more scholarships, as long as they meet the particular eligibility requirements. Details about each scholarship and the application are posted on the Foundation’s website, knoxcounctycf.org/scholarships .

The Foundation offers the following tips to help students complete their applications:

· Review the Community Scholarship Tips to Apply document.

· Print the Student Review Sheet to assist with your scholarship review process.

· Begin working on the application early.

· Follow all instructions carefully and make sure you are submitting all the required parts (including letters of recommendation, transcripts, etc.).

· Check and double-check your application before submitting.

Applications are accepted until midnight on Thursday, January 15, 2023.

Community Foundation’s Knox Gives Program Awards Grant

Backpacks of Love for VCSC recently received a $1,000 grant from the Knox County Community Foundation through the Knox Gives Grant Program.

The Knox Gives Grant Program allows Knox County Community Foundation advisory board members to recommend $1,000 grants to local nonprofit organizations. The Foundation’s most recent grant recommendation was made by Chrissy Lange for general support to Backpacks of Love for VCSC.

Backpacks of Love provides backpacks of food to needy students in the Vincennes Community School Corporation. These bags of food are sent home with the hope that students will be nourished when they come to school on Monday.

Mental Health America in Indiana-Knox County recently received a $1,000 grant from the Knox County Community Foundation through the Knox Gives Grant Program.

The Knox Gives Grant Program allows Knox County Community Foundation advisory board members to recommend $1,000 grants to local nonprofit organizations. The Foundation’s most recent grant recommendation was made by Steve Smith for general support to Mental Health America in Indiana- Knox County.

The mission of Mental Health America of Knox county is to work for the promotion and preservation of mental health/prevention of mental illness, to raise standards of care for those suffering from mental illness/disorder, to dispel stigmas and false information about mental illness to all those in the Knox County Community and to support the mentally ill who "fall through the cracks" in the current system.

Community Foundation’s Knox Gives Program Awards Grant

Spirit of Vincennes, Inc. recently received a $1,000 grant from the Knox County Community Foundation through the Knox Gives Grant Program.

The Knox Gives Grant Program allows Knox County Community Foundation advisory board members to recommend $1,000 grants to local nonprofit organizations. The Foundation’s most recent grant recommendation was made by Drew Garretson for general support to Spirit of Vincennes, Inc.

Spirit of Vincennes’ mission is to promote, educate and preserve the heritage of Vincennes through the Rendezvous and other similar activities.

Knox County Community Foundation Now Accepting Applications for the 2023 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program

The 2023 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship application is now available in Knox County through the Knox County Community Foundation. The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program (LECSP) will provide 143 scholarships statewide and one scholarship in Knox County. LECSP scholarships may be used for otherwise unreimbursed full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year. The special allocation may cover the costs for required books and required equipment for four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university.

The program, administered statewide by Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) and locally in Knox County through the Knox County Community Foundation, is open to all Indiana residents who:

• graduate from an accredited Indiana high school by 2023 and receive their diploma no later than June 30, 2023;

• intend to pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study at an eligible college or university in Indiana; and

• meet the criteria specific to their local community foundation.

Applications will be evaluated on, but not limited to, the following criteria: academic performance, community service and volunteer activities, and an essay. One recipient and two alternates will be nominated by the Knox County Community Foundation, and their names will be submitted to ICI for final selection of the recipients. Scholarship recipients will be notified in December.

Lilly Endowment created LECSP for the 1997-1998 school year and has supported the program every year since with tuition grants totaling more than $424 million. Nearly 5,000 Indiana students have received Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships since the program’s inception.

The Knox County Community Foundation is again pleased to offer LECSP for its 26 ^th year in Knox County. The Knox County Farm Fair recently received a $500 grant from the Knox County Community Foundation through the Knox Gives Grant Program.

The Knox Gives Grant Program allows Knox County Community Foundation advisory board members to recommend $500 grants to local nonprofit organizations. The Foundation’s most recent grant recommendation was made by Beth Chattin for general support to the Knox County Farm Fair.

The Knox County Farm Fair’s mission is to provide a safe environment to host the annual Knox County Fair. To provide exhibition areas for 4-Hers and their projects. In addition, the facility is available for use by the community and by individuals as a place for meetings, festivals, dinners and outreach efforts.

Knox County Community Foundation Now Accepting Applications For Community Good Grants

(Vincennes, Indiana) The Knox County Community Foundation is now accepting online applications for their Community Good Grants Program. The deadline to submit applications is Saturday, July 23, 2022.

The Foundation awards Community Good grants to charitable partners located in or directly serving Knox County. Funding opportunities are available to support a broad range of local needs. Grants are normally given as one-time support of a project but may be considered for additional support, or for expansions or outgrowths of an initial project. All organizations submitting grant proposals will be notified of the outcome on or before October 1, 2022.

Charitable entities can view details related to funding requirements and access the grant application via the Foundation’s website at https://www.knoxcountycf.org/grants .

Agencies and projects not eligible for funding include religious organizations proposing activities that support a religious purpose, political parties or campaigns, endowment creation or debt reduction, capital campaigns, annual appeals or membership contributions, and travel requests for groups or individuals such as bands, sports teams, or school classes.

(Vincennes, Indiana) The Lord’s Warehouse recently received a $500 grant from the Knox County Community Foundation through the Knox Gives Grant Program.

The Knox Gives Grant Program allows Knox County Community Foundation advisory board members to recommend $500 grants to local nonprofit organizations. The Foundation’s most recent grant recommendation was made by Lorrinda Ellermann and will provide general support to The Lord’s Warehouse.

The Lord’s Warehouse is an organization that distributes food, clothing, household supplies, and sometimes other necessities to those in need of a helping hand. Their mission is to serve the Lord and our community.

Knox County Community Foundation Awards Over $25,000 In Scholarships

The Knox County Community Foundation announces the distribution of community scholarships totaling $26,500. This year, funds established by generous donors, provided the scholarships to 13 area students. The scholarship breakfast for fund founders and recipients was held on Wednesday, May 4 ^th at Green Activities Center on Vincennes University Campus.

In addition to announcing the recipients, the Regional Director of Community Engagement & Impact, Laura Hazelman states, “The Knox County Community Foundation is thankful to our generous fund founders and donors who make these scholarship awards possible. Their investment in the education of our youth has impacted each of these students. The process of choosing who will be awarded each of these scholarships is undertaken with dedication and discipline by a committee made up of members of the Knox County Community Foundation Advisory Board. We are grateful for their hard work and dedication in doing this. The process is never easy because our Knox County students are exceptional.”

Scholarships awarded:

The Zack Arnold Memorial Scholarship is an annual renewable scholarship established by Dr. Brian Arnold and his family in memory of his son Zack. Since golf was important to Zack, the scholarship benefits Knox County seniors who have participated on their school golf team. This year’s $2,000 scholarship recipient is Maddisyn Halter, Rivet High School.

The Persis McClure Hurst Memorial Scholarship was established by Sarah H. Keller in memory of her mother. It benefits graduating seniors of any Knox County High School planning to attend any Indiana college or university, and demonstrate an interest in English or history. This year’s $2,000 scholarship recipient is Natalie Irvine, North Knox High School.

McKinley Avenue Presbyterian Church Student Scholarship is an annual scholarship founded by the members of the McKinley Avenue Presbyterian Church Student Scholarship Committee. It benefits a graduating senior at any Knox County High School pursuing a post-secondary education. The recipient of the $800 scholarship is Danica Dunn, Rivet High School.

The James (Jim) Jenks Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship established by friends of Jim Jenks to help graduating seniors of Knox County pursue advanced education. Jim was an avid golfer, so recipients must have been a member of their school’s golf team during their senior year of high school. The scholarship will be awarded to a female student and one male student. This year’s $500 award recipients are Salena Dellinger, South Knox High School and Christian Steininger, Rivet High School.

The Kathleen W. Rinsch Educational Scholarship is an annual renewable scholarship established by the past director of the Knox County Community Foundation, Kathy Rinsch. She was a former English and Latin teacher at North Knox High School and started this scholarship to encourage recent graduates and non-traditional students to pursue higher education in the field of education. The recipient of the $1,000 scholarship is Paxton Williams, Lincoln High School.

The Robert W. Nordhorn Memorial Scholarship was established by Mrs. Marcia Nordhorn in memory of her husband Robert. The scholarship is awarded to a student at Lincoln High School who has participated in arts/technical theater, choir or band and who has participated in theatrical productions. This year the $700 scholarship recipient is Matthew Joyce.

The Roger Montgomery, M.D. Memorial Scholarship was established by Sue Montgomery in memory of her husband Dr. (Walter) Roger Montgomery, a Vincennes nephrologist. It is available to graduating seniors of any Knox County high school or certified home school program who are pursuing post-secondary education. This year the $3,000 scholarship recipient is Lillee Cardinal, a senior at North Knox High School.

The Lester M. Baughman Scholarship is an annual scholarship established by the children of Lester M. Baughman to help current employees of Aperion Care, Bridgeport, IL, who have completed at least one year of employment with the healthcare center and/or who are enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Frontier Community College, Olney Central College, Lincoln Trail College, or Wabash Valley College in Illinois, and are pursuing a registered nursing degree following certification as a licensed practical nurse. Applications are open year-round. This year’s award is $3,000 and the recipient is Kenlee Lytle.

Knox County Community Foundation Scholarship - This year, 23 students applied for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship and as in years past, the Community Foundation awards a scholarship to the first alternate to the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. The scholarship is made possible by donors to the Friends of Knox County endowment fund. The amount being awarded this year is $6,000 to Salena Dellinger of South Knox High School.

Emma Miller of North Knox High School is the 2022 Knox County Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship recipient. She will receive a full tuition scholarship to the Indiana College of her choice and a $900 yearly stipend for required books and equipment from the Lilly Endowment Scholarship. After graduation, Emma plans to attend Purdue University. The Community Foundation handles the applications, and a volunteer selection committee of community leaders completes the review process for this award, submitting final nominations to Independent Colleges of Indiana.

This Knox Gives Grant Program allows Knox County Community Foundation advisory board members to recommend $500 grants to local nonprofit organizations. The Foundation’s most recent grant recommendation was made by Susan Brocksmith and will provide general support to North Knox Social Ministries.

North Knox Social Ministries is an organization that serves families who fall at or below the federal poverty line and reside in the North Knox area.

Isaiah 117 House is an organization that provides a safe home for Knox County children to go while they await placement in a foster home.

(Vincennes, Indiana) Vincennes Cub League recently received a $500 grant from the Knox County Community Foundation through the Knox Gives Grants Program.

This program allows Knox County Community Foundation advisory board members recommend $500 grants to local nonprofit organizations. The Foundation’s most recent grant recommendation was made by Greg Cardinal and will provide support to Vincennes Cub League for the Blue Diamond Renovation project.

Vincennes Cub League is a youth baseball organization that provides Knox County children ages four to fifteen the opportunity to play organized baseball. The organization also provides a Buddy Ball program for physically and mentally challenged young people.

(Vincennes, Indiana) The Indiana Military Museum recently received a $500 grant from the Knox County Community Foundation through the Knox Gives Grants Program

Through the program, Knox County Community Foundation advisory board members recommend $500 grants to local nonprofit organizations. The Foundation’s most recent grant recommendation was made by Laura DeBrock and will provide support for the Indiana Military Museum.

Knox County Community Foundation Awards $79,609 To 18 Nonprofit Partners

(Vincennes, Indiana) The Knox County Community Foundation is distributing $79,609 in grants to 18 local nonprofit organizations through their 2021 Community Good Grants program.

This year’s grants provide flexible funding for a variety of charitable projects and organizations serving Knox County.

The grants awarded are:

$2,924 to Addiction Solutions Corporation to install security cameras at the Vincennes recovery house;

$15,000 to Blue Jeans Community Center, Inc. for the replacement of the deteriorated outdoor basketball court with a resurfaced court, new goals, and an open-air roof;

$2,100 to Bread of Life Ministry Inc. to pay the freight for one semi-load of donated food product that will be distributed to low income families in Knox County;

$2,000 to Generations, Division of Vincennes University's Statewide Service to host an Elder Justice event in Vincennes in September 2022 focusing on elder abuse and neglect, including lunch for participants, marketing materials/services, materials and supplies, speaker fees, and mileage costs;

$2,120 to Guardians of the Garden Master Gardeners to establish a native plant garden to demonstrate to the public the benefits of using native plants in landscaping, including the purchase of plants, landscaping supplies, educational signage, and supplies for educational programs;

$5,000 to Indiana Military Museum for the addition of interactive, educational, and intriguing new exhibits to honor veteran's sacrifices and stories, including set and backdrop building, special lighting, sound effects, video projection devices, and supplemental visual aids;

$12,488.66 to Isaiah 117 House Knox County, IN to install flooring and a security system in the new home;

$2,376 to Junior Achievement (JA) of Southwestern Indiana to facilitate JA programs in Knox County, focusing on work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy;

$5,000 to Knox County Life After Meth, Inc. to paint the interior of two recovery residences;

$8,000 to Knox County Public Library to purchase an integrated stereo system for the library that will extend to the courtyard area and to purchase equipment for an outdoor classroom and accessible playground;

$5,000 to North Knox Social Ministries for the purchase of nutritional food items ;

$5,000 to Northwest Territory Art Guild to support the 1st City Public Sculpture Exhibition 2021, including honoraria for artists for loan of their works, signage for the sculptures, and advertising and promotion;

$1,500 to Old Town Players Community Theater to help with the expenses (royalties, scripts, and music) of the performance of Mel Brooks' "Young Frankenstein";

$4,000 to Red Skelton Museum Foundation, Inc. to purchase ten commercial-grade vendor tents for the Christkindlmarkt Festival and other events associated with the Red Skelton Museum;

$3,000 to Southern Indiana Development Commission to purchase computer equipment that will aid a two-year Digital Fellow expand broadband and digital capacity in Knox County and surrounding region;

$1,500 to Southwest Festival of Bands Inc. for new commissioned music and an opportunity for band students to perform for the public under the direction of a guest composer, experience playing in a band of over 200 musicians, and improve playing skills by rehearsing technique, balance, intonation, tone, rhythm, and musicality;

$1,000 to United Way of Knox County IN to purchase ten additional boxes for the bedtime in a box/sleep hygiene program at Bicknell PACE Head Start, targeting 4-year-olds; and

$1,600 to Vigo Township Volunteer Fire Department to purchase a 10 X 20 canopy tent for the Auxiliary Unit.

Knox County Community Foundation Awards Largest Grant In History

On September 22nd, the Knox County Community Foundation awarded the largest grant in the Foundation’s history to the Good Samaritan Hospital through the Target Lasting Change (TLC) grant initiative. The hospital was awarded $85,580 to increase the hospital’s level of pediatric readiness and expand Mobile Integrated Health-Community Paramedicine, in order to support pediatric patients and their families in Knox County.

The Good Samaritan Hospital graciously accepted this grant award at an outdoor presentation, in front of the Hedde Educational Center. "Good Samaritan constantly monitors trends in healthcare and works to identify specific needs of our patients. As pediatric healthcare needs have increased, especially during the pandemic, we are pleased that the Knox County Community Foundation is offering support of Good Samaritan to bolster Pediatric Readiness efforts in the Emergency Department and throughout our hospital." states Good Samaritan Hospital’s President and CEO, Rob McLin.

He adds, "Once our pediatric patients are discharged from the hospital, our Pediatric Community Paramedicine Program will serve to provide a level of follow-up care only available in a few counties throughout the state of Indiana. These programs are an expansion of our commitment for each child under the age of 18 to "Grow Up with Good Samaritan".

TLC grant recipients must strategically address a pressing community need and aim to make a significant and sustained, positive impact among the population being served and/or the broader community. Knox County Community Foundation County Advisory Board president Craig Kirk states, “When we work together for the common good, it allows the Community Foundation to focus our grant dollars on programs and projects that directly address larger community needs and make a stronger impact.”

Grant applicants are reviewed by the Foundation’s TLC grants committee, chaired by County Advisory Board member Sherry Smith. Smith states, “The community foundation’s motto is For Good. Forever. and it was obvious to those of us on this committee that Knox County’s future is bright,” after reviewing this year’s applicants.

Smith says, “Good Samaritan Hospital brought to our attention that, in 2020 and 2021, our hospital saw a heavy increase in pediatric visits, substance use issues, and mental health concerns for those in our community under the age of 18. We are grateful that Good Samaritan Hospital seeks to address these concerns in a collaborative way, asking our Foundation for assistance in becoming a “pediatric-ready” facility for our region.”

This is the fourth TLC grant since the inception of this initiative in 2008. Generous donors of the Friends of Knox County Fund have allowed for more than $205,000 in grant dollars to be distributed through this specific grant initiative.

The first TLC grant was awarded in 2008 to Life After Meth Inc. for the Community Model Program that helps incarcerated addicts recover and re-enter the community. The second award in 2012 was granted to Children and Family Services for Hope’s Voice, a program that works with those affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. The previous grant was awarded in 2016 to the Salvation Army Vincennes for the Pathway of Hope program. This program assists families wanting to break the cycle of poverty by providing them a path out of constant crisis.
